This drink is suitable for both adults and toddler. Most of the time, toddler is not able to take too “cooling” food like the adult. Hence when they are “heaty”, the only “cooling” food they can take will be such a drink. I made it for daddy but I let my boy drink it too, as he shows signs of heatiness.
Candied winter melon
- Wash the pearl barley. Soak it for around 30 minutes.
- Boil the water (depending how thick you want, adjust the amount of water accordingly. I use around 1.5 litres for 3/4 cup barley).
- Put the barley and candied winter melon into the boiling water. Turn down the fire and simmer for around 1 hour.
- Filter and serve either hot or cold.
Mum mum’s notes:
It is better to serve your toddler warm drink, rather than cold. And if you find it not sweet enough, you can add rock sugar too.
