Steaming any type of food is always the fastest way to prepare a decent dish (my personal opinion). All I need to do is to prepare every ingredient in advance in one dish and put in the fridge. I just need to take out the dish and place in a steamer. And that’s it! One simple dish done effortlessly. Steamed food doesn’t meant that it will be bland and tasteless.. It can be tasty as well as healthy. “Kill two birds in one stone” isn’t? 🙂

Chicken wings (usually I just buy mid joints from supermarket)
Dried mushrooms (soaked and cut – this can be optional as well)
Light soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Ginger, shredded

  1. Wash the chicken wings and pat dry. Marinate them with light soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, pepper and cornflour. Add the shredded ginger last.
  2. Marinate it overnight (or at least an hour).
  3. Place the plate of marinated chicken wings in the electric steamer (or you can use the traditional way of steaming) and steam around 20 minutes. If you like mushrooms, you can add mushrooms before you put the plate into the steamer. For me I omit the mushrooms
  4. This dish goes well with rice!

Mum mum’s notes:

You may ask.. what is the traditional way of steaming? Well, for Chinese, we boil up a wok of water and place the dish on top of the steaming rack. That is considered the traditional way of steaming. And usually by this method, you can control the strength of fire and hence the cooking time. So if you go by traditional method, the steaming time for the chicken wings would be shorter, i.e. maybe 12 to 15 mins?

But it doesn’t matter if you want to cook it longer as the meat at the chicken wings area will not become too tough as the cooking time increases.
