I like stir frying shabu shabu with onion, especially when it is Japanese stir fried style. I find it go especially well with the rice bowl or ramen. I had tried such rice bowl in one restaurant in Singapore (called JJ Fish Mart I think) and I simply cannot forget the taste! So I decide to replicate the taste at home. It turned out that…. it is not exactly the same but at least 80% similar. haha.. Maybe it is because there is no MSG. :p
- Wash the rice and cook using rice cooker.
- Heat up the wok and add olive oil. Saute the sliced onion till fragrant.
- Add the shabu shabu and stir fry for 1 to 2 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. After which, add A1 sauce, light soy sauce, oyster sauce and butter.
- Dish up and serve on top of the bowl of rice.
Mum mum’s notes:
To make it a complete Japanese style meal, you can make some miso soup to go with the shabu shabu rice bowl. I usually will use those miso paste (less sodium type) and add some kombu (or kelp) in the soup. Yummy!
