I like stir frying shabu shabu with onion, especially when it is Japanese stir fried style. I find it go especially well with the rice bowl or ramen. I had tried such rice bowl in one restaurant in Singapore (called JJ Fish Mart I think) and I simply cannot forget the taste! So I decide to replicate the taste at home. It turned out that…. it is not exactly the same but at least 80% similar. haha.. Maybe it is because there is no MSG. :p

ingredients.

Shabu shabu
Onion, sliced
A1 sauce
Oyster sauce
Light soy sauce
Butter
Pepper to taste
Salt to taste
Olive oil
Short grain rice (Japanese pearl rice)

methods.

  1. Wash the rice and cook using rice cooker.
  2. Heat up the wok and add olive oil. Saute the sliced onion till fragrant.
  3. Add the shabu shabu and stir fry for 1 to 2 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. After which, add A1 sauce, light soy sauce, oyster sauce and butter.
  4. Dish up and serve on top of the bowl of rice.

Mum mum’s notes:

To make it a complete Japanese style meal, you can make some miso soup to go with the shabu shabu rice bowl. I usually will use those miso paste (less sodium type) and add some kombu (or kelp) in the soup. Yummy!
