    I always like to use pearl corn for making soup for my kid. This is because of the natural sweetness that the pearl corn will bring to the soup. And the sweetness is somehow enhanced by a bit of salt. Pumpkin is also another great food, which has a lot of nutrients for kids. And I usually cook the pumpkin with skin in the soup. You may choose to remove the skin before adding to the soup. But I have heard that pumpkin skin is full of benefits too, hence I always will cook/eat it with skin!

    My boy is always a picky kid when it comes to having a meal. The only type of dish he is willing to finish it all is soupy macaroni. So how to ensure he has all the nutrients when he refuses to eat meat and vegetable as well? I have to make sure all the nutrients he required is in the soup. So each time I will cook many different types of soup and freeze enough for the weekend. When it comes to vegetable soup, I will simply cook the soup with whatever ingredients I can find in my fridge.

    I used to lunch at this Vietnamese “fast food restaurant” called Saigon Express. I just love their pork vermicelli. To make the dish even more welcoming to me, they always give me generous amount of daikon and carrot pickles. So when this fast food restaurant closed down, I could no longer find the same pork vermicelli. Hence I decided to make my own pork vermicelli. But to do that, I have to learn to make the daikon and carrot pickles first. To me, that is one of the important ingredient of the pork vermicelli.

  6. Cabbage with pork crisp

    It is a relatively simple dish. I usually will just stir fry cabbage with oyster sauce and minced garlic and that is it. Never did I think of making some variation to it until I saw a recipe (somewhere, I cannot remember where). The chef recommends to add some pork crisp! Wow, it sounds interesting to me. Indeed, with some pork crisp to top the cabbage, it did bring some unique flavor! So if you feel tired of plain stir fried cabbage, you can try topping the dish with some pork crisp.

    This is one of the main ingredients for bak chor mee, which I intended to make next. I always like mushrooms, fresh or dried ones and I like it braised too. 🙂 It is really simple and easy to make. Not much time required.
